S. Gabriel Respicio, O.D.

A UC Berkeley School of Optometry graduate, Dr. Gabe "Respicio" - latin for "I look upon" - started his career at Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo, CA. Wanting to explore the possibilities private practice had to offer, he joined Daly City Optometry in 1997.

An 19-year resident of Hercules, CA, Dr. Gabe launched OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY there in September, 2005, and has continued to utilize the BEST and LATEST technology the eye industry has to offer. "OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY is my dream practice," he adds!

Dr. Respicio has participated in and co-authored contact lens related studies in Optometric journals and texts. His doctorate thesis - involved Sports Vision - enabled him to work with the CAL baseball and softball teams as well as the athletes involved in the East-West Shrine Game. A member of the California and American Optometric Associations, he is also certified to treat certain eye diseases.

Having co-managed hundreds of patients with the Bay Area's best LASIK surgeons, Dr. Respicio is highly trained and experienced in this sub-specialty as well.

Recently, he added Low Vision services to his practice in which telescopic and magnification devices are prescribed to those suffering from vision loss related to such diseases as Diabetes, Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma. "We have stocked OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY with $25,000 worth of Low Vision aids to help these people in need," says Dr. Respicio.

If he's not playing the drums (if he could be a rock star, he would), grinding out DYI projects around the house, or hitting golf balls at Franklin Canyon, Dr. Gabe's free time is spent with his beautiful wife, Jennifer, and his wonderful kids . . . 11 year-old daughter, Niki, and 4 year-old son, Roman. They are happy to announce that Jennifer is now 5 months pregnant with son #2.

Mrs. Jennifer S. Respicio

When you're in the office, you may run into Dr. Respicio's wife, Jennifer. She is an Ob-Gyn RN working at CPMC in SF, but she also helps keep operations smooth at OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY. An excellent frame stylist, Jen is also fluent in Tagalog and Kapampangan. She enjoys working out, scrap-booking, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, StarBucks and Jamba Juice.

Lourdes Recto, Optician

"Louie" as she's fondly referred to, is our billing expert and can provide invaluable help to maximize the value of your insurance benefits. She just received a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at SFSU and is considering Optometry School as an option for the near future.

For OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY patients, she can take 10 years off your appearance with great frame-styling. Having recently underwent custom LASIK surgery, she is our LASIK co-management coordinator and can give you first hand insight on the LASIK process.

She is also fluent in Tagalog.

Thue Tran, Lab Technician

Thue (pronounced "TWEE") brings a sense of excitement, style, and enthusiasm with her to OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY. She just received an undergraduate degree from SFSU - in Biochemistry.

Intelligent, cheerful, helpful and friendly . . . , Thue is an expert keeping things organized; and because of her creative knack, attention to detail, and fine dexterity, she is OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY's primary optical lab technician.

Thue is also fluent in Vietnamese and enjoys listening to music - mostly country and alternative rock.

Ms. Anjelica Rayo, Optometric Asst.

Anjelica is a recent graduate of Hercules Middle High School and embarked on her collegiate career -- starting at Diablo Valley College -- last fall. She is all over the practice helping with accounts payable, front desk reception, she is highly trained to "pre-test" patients, and help with frame styling.

OPTOMETRY BY THE BAY is located at 500 Alfred Nobel Drive. Suite 117 is located next to Quest Diagnostics in the main lobby. Built in 2004, Venture Professional Center is home to many healthcare providers including Internal Medicine, Primary Care, Pediatrics, Dermatology, OB-Gynecology, Chiropractic, Podiatry, General Dentistry, Orthodontics, Acupuncture/Asian Medicine, Massage Therapy and more. The building is also home to non-medical entities including the Hercules Chamber of Commerce, Realty and mortgage brokers, lawyers, tax-preparers, business consultants, and more.
